Installation

KISSS Certification pt.5 Installation

When starting the riser connections on the footer pipe, again remember that the connection must be level with no slack in the KISSS material. Install this side as you did the header pipe side.

KISSS Certification pt.4 Installation

Verify the plow is operating properly and laying the material flat in the ground. If available, it helps to have another crew person following the plow as it goes across the field to ensure proper operation. Once the tractor has passed the footer trench, cut the KISSS material with scissors and leave enough material to connect to the riser. Have the tractor back over the new line so that the rear tires help smooth out the turf. You are ready to run another line.

KISSS Certification pt.3 Installation

Contractor will decide which zone to start first. Consult the plans to see what direction the KISSS material is to be installed. Location of water source and valves will be specified on the plans. Trenches must be excavated for the header and footer. If the KISSS material is to be buried at 4”, the trenches must be 13” deep to accommodate the minimum 1 ¼” PVC pipe, and 8” riser. Next, determine from the plans what the spacing between the KISSS lines has been specified by KISSS America. Consult with the Field Ops Technician if there are questions.

KISSS Certification pt.2 Tool Recommendations

  • Good pair of fabric scissors – (maybe 2 depending on size of job) to cut the KISSS material during installation at headers and footers
  • Water based lubricant for ease of installing risers and or starter connectors (optional)
  • Irrigation PVC pipe cutters, or saw
  • Various bushings, female & or male adapters, and caps for ends of headers & footers
  • Ball valves for use as flush valves – one per zone
  • Glue and Primer – Christies Hot Glue has been very successful in wet situations
  • Teflon tape for screw on fittings

KISSS Certification

Two weeks prior to the installation date, call KISSS America Field Operations (1-800-376-7161) and set an appointment for KISSS Certification Training. This will be conducted the afternoon or the day before installation and takes approximately 2 hours for the classroom phase of certification. The final phase of certification takes place in the field during installation. Certification involves a comprehensive understanding of each of the KISSS products and how, why, and where they are installed. The classroom utilizes a Power Point presentation, hands on examples, and demonstrations.

KISSS Plow Simple Installation Back View

KISSS America has invented a plow specifically developed to make the installation of KISSS into turf sites a breeze. The plow's unique design surgically slices existing turf, embeds the KISSS material at a preset depth depending upon the design, and closes the slice all in one pass. Once the sliced areas are rolled and the KISSS material is attached to headers and footers, the system is reading for irrigation.
